Curriculum & Learning

THE PHASES & KEY STAGES

The curriculum in Amnuay Silpa follows a five key-stage approach.

  • The Foundation Phase (Nursery/Kindergarten 1 to Year 2/Prathom 1) covers the UK Key-Stage 1 curriculum, as well as the Foundation and first year of Primary Thai curriculum.
  • The Primary Phase (Year 3/Prathom 2 to Year 6/Prathom 5) covers the UK Key Stage 2 curriculum as well as the second to fifth year of Thai Primary curriculum.
  • The Secondary Phase (Y7/Prathom 6 to Y13/Mathahyoym 6) covers Key stages 3-5 as well as the final year of Primary Thai curriculum and the Secondary Thai curriculum.

HOLISTIC EXPECTATIONS

Foundation and Primary Phases

The UK and Thai curriculums provide a progressive and enjoyable learning experience for the children between the ages of 3 to 11 years. The first two years in Foundation Phase follows the UK’s ‘Early Years’ (age 3-5 years) where the children are immersed in a bilingual setting and continuously learning through play. Thai skills and content are structured around this UK learning approach.
Age appropriate challenges and experiences are given to the children throughout their learning journey, moving away from ‘learning through play’ and more towards independent and interdependent problem-solving applications and analysing of outcomes.  As the children’s journey continues, their holistic capabilities develop and widens.  This journey enables the children the opportunity to find their own academic strengths and interests in a variety of subjects before moving on to the more focused academic content in the Secondary Phases.

Secondary Phase Curriculum

In the Secondary Phase, students follow both the UK curriculum and the Thai curriculum. In Key Stage 3 students follow a broad and balanced UK curriculum, taught by native English speakers. This includes Mathematics, English, Humanities, Drama, Science and PE. They also follow the Thai curriculum and sit the ONet examinations in Years 7, 10 and 13.
In Key Stage 4 students study for 5 core IGCSE’s, Mathematics, Double Award Science, English and Thai language. They choose an additional 2 IGCSE subjects from the following:-

Art, Business Studies, Drama, Graphics, Design & Technology, Global Perspectives, Geography, History, Mandarin Chinese
They also continue to study the Thai curriculum which covers:-
Thai General Science, Thai Language, Thai Mathematics, Thai Arts, Guidance, Health Studies, Thai History, Social Studies

As students progress to Key Stage 5 they move onto our Pathways Programme, where they choose from the following pathways:-
• Pathway 1 – Thai General track, plus 2 A levels,IELTS
• Pathway 2 – Thai Science track, plus 2 A levels, IELTS
• Pathway 3 – International track, Global Perspectives A level; 3 additional A levels,  IELTS, plus Thai Studies
In addition, there are a wide range of after school clubs and activities for them to participate in.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

As an Advanced Thinking School, our primary aim is to enable the children to develop a transferable skillset where they can thrive in any context.  Starting in their very first year at Amnuay Silpa, they are guided to learning-dispositions of interdependence, collaboration and perseverance.  Throughout their journey in Amnuay Silpa, the children are required to think creatively, critically and reflectively. They actively take part in enquiry discussion develop themselves as effective problem solvers and innovators.
The curricula and structure we provide enable the children to grow a mindset open to new experiences, ready to learn from others, able to utilise their own voice and be active participants in the lesson.  They learn from their mistakes and know how to improve.
